This is a conceptual photographic project which emerged from a desire to create images without a set direction, allowing the work and process to organically dictate its own development. The images are self-portraits exposed on 8x10inc dry plates made from hand cut recycled glass that are then developed in a homemade plant developer, consisting of plants sourced from the locations photographed. This process is experimental and unpredictable; the visible cuts, marks, and textures are all results of this method, rendering each piece unique.

In the last few years I have turned towards sustainable methods to tackle the material waste perpetrated by my analogue practice, and consider more closely the relation between photography and materiality. As a starting point for each image I would wander the parks and natural reserves near me in north London until I felt an instinctive pull to an area, where I would slowly set up the large format camera and prepare to switch from photographer to subject. This approach is about presence; my physical and emotional presence in the natural environments I inhabit, in every act of making the images, and in the material nature of the images. Creating these photographs is a form of respite. It briefly provides a quiet contemplative space to exist in.
